Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing

The application of Fractional CO2 cutting-edge lasers has proven to be a top anti-ageing breakthrough. The laser technology guarantees accuracy, little downtime and fewer side effects.

This is a highly advanced technology widely used in both medical and aesthetic fields. Known for its precision and versatility, it delivers powerful results by utilising a unique wavelength of light to interact with water molecules in tissues.

This wavelength is highly absorbed by water, which constitutes a significant portion of human tissue. The interaction between the laser energy and water allows the fractional CO2 laser to precisely vaporise or ablate tissue layers, making it ideal for resurfacing.

The laser creates microscopic columns of ablation while leaving the surrounding tissue intact. As the laser scans across the skin, it penetrates the epidermis (outer layer of the skin), creating micro-wounds that stimulate the natural production of new collagen, elastin and an amazing resurfacing of the outer layer of skin. By removing layers of damaged skin, the Fractional CO2 laser encourages the creation of collagen and reveals smoother, healthier skin.

This enhances healing and reduces downtime, making treatments more appealing. It is a versatile and powerful tool that has transformed the fields of dermatology, aesthetics and medicine by delivering exceptional results.

At Bella Mai, we are committed to providing our clients with the highest quality treatments and outcomes. Our highly skilled professionals have experience performing a variety of CO2 laser cosmetic treatments.

It takes several months for new collagen to be stimulated and to mature, so the skin gets tighter and smoother over a course of 3-6 months.

Difference between Fractional and Ablative Treatments:

Essentially, the same device is used; it will depend on the parameters, skin concern and settings.

Ablative CO2 is where the laser energy is directed in a very focused area. For example, to remove lesions, we need high power focused on a small area, such as Moles, Seborrheic Keratosis, Xanthelasma, Skin Tags, etc. It is almost used as a cutting/burning device, dealing with certain specific issues.

Fractional CO2 is where the laser is spread out over a larger area, with gaps between where the energy is delivered. For example, skin resurfacing. However, ablative can be used as well, but the recovery will take much longer, anywhere up to 6 months, with more serious risks.

You can achieve the same ablative result from doing Fractional treatments over 3 sessions (6-8 weeks apart), with less downtime afterwards, and the chances of risks and complications are much less, which leads to a much safer treatment. You are getting the same benefits over 3 treatments, with less downtime and significantly less risk of infection or major complications. Hence, we always choose Fractional CO2 treatment for our skin resurfacing treatments. Our client's safety is our main priority.

Skin Resurfacing with Fractional CO2 Laser: By removing layers of damaged skin, the Fractional CO2 laser encourages the creation of collagen and reveals smoother, healthier skin.

Scar Reduction with Fractional CO2 Laser: By concentrating on the epidermis, this procedure can help lessen the visibility of scars brought on by surgery, acne, or other wounds.

Stretch Mark Reduction with Fractional CO2 Laser: This procedure produces smoother, more uniform skin and encourages the development of collagen.

Lesion Removal with Ablative CO2 Laser: Eliminates them, while sparing the surrounding skin from damage and minimising scarring.

There are so many benefits to this laser that we had to give it its own section for treatments.

Every individual is different, and the effectiveness of the treatment will differ from client to client. Unfortunately, we are unable to treat sensitive skin with conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis with this treatment.

Some darker Fitzpatrick skin types can also be more challenging to treat because the skin contains more melanin. Melanin in some skin tones is stimulated by trauma to the skin. The Fractional CO2 is an ablative laser that causes controlled skin trauma, aiming to encourage collagen growth. Due to this, it will stimulate pigment and cause pigmentation in some skin tones. Fitzpatrick's V and VI are unsuitable for the treatment.
