Does Permanent Makeup hurt?

We use high-quality topical anaesthetics to minimise discomfort. Most clients describe the sensation as a light scratching or vibrating feeling. We prioritise your comfort throughout the session in our Essex studio.

How long does the procedure take?

The initial appointment takes approximately 1–2 hours, as we spend a significant amount of time 'mapping' and drawing the shape to your satisfaction before we start. The top-up session takes about 40–60 minutes.

Why do I need a 6-week top-up?

PMU is a two-step process. During the first session, we go lighter to see how your skin retains the pigment. The second session, 4–6 weeks later, allows us to refine the shape and add more colour where needed for a perfect finish.

How long will my Permanent Makeup last?

Results typically last between 1 to 3 years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and sun exposure. We recommend an annual 'colour boost' to keep the pigment looking fresh.

What will I look like immediately after the treatment?

The area will appear approximately 50% darker than the final healed result for about 7 days. You may also experience slight swelling and redness, which subsides quickly.

Is a patch test necessary?

Yes. A patch test is required at least 24 hours before your treatment to ensure you have no allergic reaction to the pigments or anaesthetics we use at Bella Mai Essex.

Can you treat dark or cool-toned lips?

Yes! We specialise in Dark Lip Neutralisation, which uses specific warm-toned pigments to brighten and even out the natural lip tone over 2–3 sessions.

What is the aftercare for PMU?

You will be provided with a healing cream and a day-by-day guide. It is vital to keep the area clean and avoid picking any small crusts that form to ensure the pigment stays in the skin.

Can I have PMU if I am pregnant?

No. We do not perform Permanent Makeup or Microblading on clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. We look forward to treating you once your breastfeeding journey has ended.
